Student Job: Preparation of Ice Cores for Geochemical Analysis (m/f/d)

Background

For the preparation of ice cores for their geochemical analysis, we seek a student helper employed for 40-80 hrs per month. The ice cores will be cut in the -20°C ice core lab of AWI and analysed for trace metal composition using ICPMS/OES.

Tasks

The following tasks will have to carried out, e.g.:
Working in cold-room conditions (-20°C), suitable polar gear will be provided

Support in sub-sampling and sample preparation (cutting and cleaning)

Sample preparation in a clean room

Sample documentation

Cleaning of sample vials etc.

Chemical analyses, depending on the applicant’s experience and skills

Requirements

Valid university registration as student

Experience in lab work, desirable in clean labs or ice labs

Thorough and clean way of working

Some flexibility in terms of working days, no working outside the core hours required

The place of employment will be Bremerhaven.
