Alberta Energy has an opportunity for a results-driven leader who possesses strong relationship building abilities, political acumen and effective communication skills.

As the Chief of Staff, reporting to the Deputy Minister (DM) you are the main point of contact in the Deputy Ministry`s Office and act as a liaison and key resource for strategic support, advice, and assistance to ministry staff, the Associate DM Office, Executive Council, and other stakeholders. You respond to inquiries from the Associate Minister‘s Office, the Associate DM and other senior officials, complete requests for information, and provide strategic advice and guidance on issue resolution.

Using your systems thinking skills, you are able to support an integrated approach to the implementation of energy initiatives. You are responsible to align Energy files across government and will achieve this through your extensive experience managing a diverse number of inter-related but distinct programs and high profile/sensitive issues in an environment of sustained intensity consisting of diverse stakeholder groups who often have competing interests.

As a trusted advisor to the Deputy Minister, you contribute to the overall planning and integration activities by providing leadership and direction on the development of project management tools to support the department and senior executives in tracking key initiatives, policy and legislative processes. You provide strategic support, advice, and assistance to the DM and leadership team. You ensure that the DM is fully apprised of issues, initiatives, and stakeholder concerns. Your success lies in your demonstrated leadership skills in aligning ministry initiatives with government priorities.

Using your ability to develop networks and build collaborative environments, you play an active role in networking and facilitating key internal and external stakeholder relationships that can have province-wide scope. Your strong working relationships with stakeholders support collaborative issue resolution that aligns with the ministry’s and the Government of Alberta’s strategic direction and priorities.

You work within the Deputy Minister Office to coordinate timing and ensure inclusion of policy items on the agenda for Cabinet and other policy committees.

You drive for results by forecasting potential challenges with implementation and negotiating major issues in advance, and by using your knowledge of the overall organization to improve performance. You initiate actions to optimize resources for the achievement of improved results.

You are agile and have experience working in a multifaceted, fast-paced environment, using your well-developed verbal and written communication skills in the transfer of information to inform and influence executives and senior officials.
