Apprentice Horticulturist Job at Canterbury-Bankstown Council – Australia

Do you have a passion for the outdoors and looking to learn a trade? A rewarding opportunity has presented itself for a dedicated and driven individual to join our Parks Unit as a Horticulturist where you will work as part of a team that focusses on maintaining and improving Council’s Parks, Gardens, and landscaped areas.

You will be required to attend TAFE and participate in on the job training where you will develop the necessary skills to become a qualified Green Keeper.

The Role

In this role you will assist the Team Parks & Gardens, and other Parks & Gardens staff to:

Ensure parks, sportsfields, turf wickets, ovals, etc. are prepared, maintained and renovated in accordance with service agreements, rosters and programs.

Identify, report and where possible rectify sportsfield deficiencies

Undertake risk and hazard assessments of all areas under the position holder’s control and where necessary take corrective action.

Operate ride on mowers, chainsaws or other related plant as required.

Operate minor plant items/hand tools as required.

The opportunity is offered on a Temporary Full-Time basis, for 4 Years.

You will have:
Ongoing degree in Environmental Engineering or related discipline

Completion of NSW Record of School Achievement (RoSA)

Ability to work and actively contribute as part of a team

Desirable Qualifications and/or Experience:
Experience in Microsoft Project

Knowledge of Work Health Safety Systems and Practices

Environmental auditing experience

Current C Class Drivers License

  • Salary from $38,620 per annum + 10.5% super.
